Congressman introduces bill requiring study of autism rate in vaccinated vs. unvaccinated

MB Comment: The CDC has refused to study the autism rate in vaccinated vs. unvaccinated kids, because they are a captive agency of vaccine manufacturers. The former head of the CDC is now the head of Merck vaccines, the largest US vaccine manufacturer. CDC officials have been disrespectful, bumbling fools when required to testify before Congress.

The CDC is reluctant to compare autism rates in unvaxed vs. vaxed because it will likely show the same thing as the following study and survey, a huge increase in autism risk in the vaccinated. Of course such data will indict the CDC and expose their responsibility for creating the biggest epidemic in US history: Vaccine-induced autism.

1) Children who receive the entire 3-shot series of Hepatitis B Vaccine have a 9x higher rate of developmental disabilities than unvaccinated children. Hepatitis B triple series vaccine and developmental disability in US children aged 1-9 years
Toxicological and Environmental Chemistry, September 2008 Carolyn Gallagher* and Melody Goodman

2) Vaccinated children have higher rates of autism and ADHD than unvaccinated children.

Generation Rescue: Unvaccinated children phone survey. All vaccinated boys, compared to unvaccinated boys:

- Vaccinated boys were 155% more likely to have a neurological disorder (RR 2.55)
- Vaccinated boys were 224% more likely to have ADHD (RR 3.24)
- Vaccinated boys were 61% more likely to have autism (RR 1.61)

April is Autism Awareness Month – Moving from Awareness to Action

HON. Bill Posey
Of Florida
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Friday, April 26, 2013

I rise today to draw the attention of the Congress and the American people to the Autism epidemic that is tragically ravaging too many of America’s children.

April is Autism Awareness Month, and I am pleased to join with parents, siblings, grandparents, special education school teachers, medical care providers, and interventionists to draw attention to the rapidly expanding autism community.

When I was young, autism was virtually unheard of. In the 1980s rarely did you meet someone who knew someone with autism. Yet, in the 1990s there was an explosion of autism. Indeed, in the course of just my lifetime, Autism Spectrum Disorder has grown from a very rare condition to – according to the Centers for Disease Control – a developmental disorder affecting 1-in-50 school aged children. And, tragically, the rate for school aged boys is a disturbing 1-in-33.

On December 19, 2006, the effort to address this epidemic took a major step forward as President Bush signed into law the bipartisan Combating Autism Act. I look forward to working with my colleagues and the Autism community to reauthorize this program next year. Though the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee each year produces a strategic plan to address Autism, the billion-dollar allocation of resources to autism has not been evenly invested among genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors. I must concur with the experts who have been willing to speak out, that the epidemic increase in the rates of autism are not a ‘genetic’ epidemic. Indeed, you don’t have genetic epidemics. While there is likely a genetic component to many who have been diagnosed with Autism, we must seriously consider that there are likely several key factors in autism.

Also, so some who have suggested that the increase in Autism is due to better diagnosis, you don’t go from 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 80 in three decades due to better diagnosis alone. And, if that were the case, where are the tens of thousands of autistic adults in their 40s, 50s and 60s. While better diagnosis may be a factor, common sense says there is a real increase and something is causing it.

While some may be borne with Autism, there are many parents who testify to the fact and present cases where their children were progressing normally but something triggered a regression where they lost speech, abilities, and regressed from developmental milestones that they had earlier met. Was that regression due to external factors such as medical injury, exposure to environmental toxins such as lead or mercury, or was it adverse reactions to medications that lead to high fevers, brain inflammation or seizures? We must get answers to these questions.

I was pleased to participate in a November 2012 House Oversight and Government Reform hearing on the Federal Response to Autism. That was one of the most attended hearings I have participated in since coming to Washington in 2009. Indeed at this hearing it was standing room only, and overflow rooms had to be used to accommodate the public. This was a much anticipated hearing from many parents of children suffering from Autism who want clear and unbiased answers to questions surrounding the epidemic.
I, like many in Congress, were frustrated with the lackluster response from the federal witnesses, particularly the CDC witness that was evasive and took more than five months to respond to the Committee’s questions. The responses that finally arrived this month were incomplete, often evasive, and showed a complete lack of urgency on the part of the CDC. I was also disappointed that the federal government witnesses did not have the courtesy to remain at the hearing to listen to the testimony of the public panel representing non-profit organizations and academic institutions focused on Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.

Parents, grandparents, educators, health professionals, and highly functional adults on the autism spectrum are frustrated at the federal response to this epidemic. There is much more that we could and should be doing.

Some believe that toxins like thimerosal, which is 50% ethylmercury, have played a role in the rise in autism and neurodevelopmental disabilities. In 2000 there was near universal agreement that mercury should be removed as a preservative for vaccines. Yet, today, nearly half of all annual flu vaccines, which are recommended for children and pregnant women, still contain mercury as a preservative – not simply trace amounts of mercury. It’s 2013! Why are we still injecting ethylmercury into babies and pregnant women?

I have been deeply disappointed in the failure of the CDC and the Department of Justice to see that Dr. Poul Thorsen is extradited to the United States to stand trial for orchestrating an elaborate scheme stealing more than $1 million from the CDC-Denmark grant. That money was supposed to be used to investigate the causes of autism and developmental disabilities. Instead it was diverted to personal use by Dr. Thorsen. Thorsen was a key author on 22 of the CDC’s key studies related to autism and developmental disabilities.

Before coming to Congress in 2009, I heard from some in the autism community who have advocated for a retrospective study to examine whether there are different health outcomes when comparing vaccinated children and unvaccinated children, including autism and chronic conditions. I have continued to hear these requests over the past four years. At the hearing I asked CDC if they had conducted such a study and they said they’ve done dozens of studies related to autism but never have looked at a comparison of vaccinated versus unvaccinated. In fact, a recent study they published compared fully vaccinated children to those who were not fully vaccinated, but for some reason it did not include data on completely unvaccinated children. Seems like common sense to do a study comparing vaccinated children vs unvaccinated and this week I was pleased to be joined by my colleague Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) in introducing H.R. 1757, The Vaccine Safety Study Act. This would direct the National Institutes of Health to conduct a retrospective study of health outcomes, including autism, of vaccinated versus unvaccinated children. That should bring an answer to this decades long question.

Whether the number is 1-in-88 twelve-year-olds, or 1-in-50 school-aged children, or 1-in-33 young boys, we can all agree that the number is devastatingly high. We must overturn every stone to get to the bottom of this epidemic. We cannot afford to see this epidemic grow. We must examine every possible risk factor to protect the world’s greatest resource: our children. And, we must invest to develop the best interventions to help those who are autistic.

  1. Tara says:

I sure hope they do this study, but i don’t trust the CDC to do the study. they fudged the Varsteen study so much to make it look like mercury was not causing anything. they will do the same here and fudge the studies to show that there is only a small insignifant difference between vax/unvax. we need to request an independent study, with no financial ties to the industry.

    • Sarah says:

      Agreed!

    • tali says:

I do not think the CDC should be anywhere near this! I hope an independent company does a peer reviewed study as well

    • Bob Soratos says:

I totally agree that the CDC should not have anything to do with the study. It should be independent all the way. Being the Grandfather of 3 Autistic boys this issue is close and dear to my heart. Hard to believe that Autism isn’t caused by some kind of drug being injected into our otherwise healthy babys.

    • Victoria Hicks says:

Yes, we need an independent study, NOT a study conducted by the CDC who is clearly, definitely, absolutely coerced by competing needs.

  2. Lisa kiefer says:

I would be amazing if congress would really follow through with this study and let the parents chose!

  3. Shawn Siegel says:

All they have to do is study the medical histories of the unvaccinated, really, and it would save much time. If it turns out to be 1 in 25,000 or such, or even 25 in 25,000, the revelation will be astounding. Unfortunately, with their reliably horrific history of statistical manipulation and suppression of critical information, were this bill to actually go through the rite of passage, it would be even more astounding to expect truth to be reflected in the resulting study.

However, I just called the offices of Mr. Poser and Ms. Maloney and advised the staff with whom I spoke of the current situation at Homefirst Health Clinic in Chicago, where the staff is aware of only one diagnosed case of autism in its 50,000 unvaccinated clients.

  4. The data is there. There are hundreds of thousands and perhaps millions of unvaccinated children. However, the same issues arise. Who does the study? Who funds the study? Who’s interests are served by the study? I don’t know if there are any unbiased parties that can do this. That’s my concern. And once it is proven (and it would be) that unvaccinated children are far healthier than their vaccinated peers, the study will be torn apart, shown to be faulty, etc. Ask Andrew Wakefield. These vaccines pushers have no limits to the lies they will concoct to keep pushing their poisons.

  5. Tony says:

Many should be made aware of this bill H. R. 1757 and each person should contact their representatives to support this bill and make sure it does not die in committee

    • Excellent idea.. send the Bill number HR 1757 to everyone you know and ask them to call their congressman/woman and or FAX them a demand to vote in favor of the study.

Will it do anything? that’s the $64,000 question in so much as the information has long been available from non mainstream sources. We need more politicians to actually care about the dreadful situation we have here, with our epidemic of damaged people.

  6. Jon B. Abrahamson says:

Instead of wasting money on a study, use Dr. Andrew Wakefields data. He won his court case already. His findings stand!

  7. Michelle Jones says:

Thank you for doing this. Please use the medical records already available to save time and money. I too worry about finding anyone unbiased when it comes this issue.

  8. Teresa Porter says:

Unfortunately the health of the wallet is far more important than the health of a person. Until more value is placed on life for all than is placed on the comfort of a few this vaccine nightmare will be ongoing. It is a very sad state we live in and the pressure from the powers that be intentionally force blind parents into making horrible decisions for their children. I would love to see a true study come out about the health of the vaxed vs the health of the unvaxed but billions of dollars stand to be lost.

  10. Natalie says:

Thank goodness someone is finally bringing this up ! I have personally seen way too many children damaged already and this has to be thoroughly investigated and stopped!

  11. barbara says:

so so so so many many many children. unbelievable. and the argument continues?

  12. Karen Krueger says:

And please, let this independent inquiry make sure to cover _all_ definitions of autism since the beginning, before the CDC started moving the goalposts.

  13. Amanda says:

Unfortunately, this will *NEVER* be completed with funds coming from a governmental agency – this is because this type of design is considered “UNETHICAL”.

From the IOM’s most recent report (2013) “the strongest study design, a prospective, randomized clinical trial that includes a study arm receiving no vaccine or vaccine not given according to the current recommended schedule (…) would be UNETHICAL and therefore cannot be done.”

Specifically – “Recommendation 6-2: The Department of Health and Human Services should refrain from initiating randomized controlled trials of the childhood immunization schedule that compare safety outcomes in fully vaccinated children with those in unvaccinated children or those vaccinated by use of an alternative schedule.”

You can review EACH of the 37 articles included in the 185 IOM review of the current US vaccination schedule here (as well as the recommendations): http://blindedbythelightt.blogspot.com/2013/01/vaccine-schedule-touted-as-safe.html

  14. Kimberly says:

This study should be done!!. I hope it really happens. The funding for this study should come from the vaccine injury court money, the millions that were never awarded to those who deserve to have it. I have a vaccine injured child who only received 7 total vaccines one at a time. He was injured by the second vaccine (DTaP). The other five that followed only made his injury worse. He is now 5 years old. My 3 year old daughter has never been vaccinated. She is A-typical, perfectly healthy, and even healthier than her peers. She hit all of her milestones early! One thing that needs to be determined for this study is, what children were born with Autism and what children were not. The children that regressed should be the focus of this study to prove that this is not always a genetic predisposition. In fact, if that is the premise that the medical community is going on, then why not test these parents and children for the genetic markers that have been found in some cases and exclude those people from the study. Then there would be no question about vaccine injuries. I do not have genetic markers and neither does my son…so then how could he possibly have a genetic predisposition? So ready for this study to be done.

  15. sherrie says:

I have a 13 yr old nephew who a highly functioning autstic. HE IS SMART AND FUNNY AND LOVING. of course we would like to know the reason for his autism since no one else in our family has autism.

  16. LizP says:

I volunteer my two vaccinated, vaccine injured children and my entirely un-vaccinated, completely healthy son!!!!!

    • Carla says:

I would also volunteer my son and daughter with autism (both vaccinated) and their healthy unvaccinated sister.

  17. John Fryer says:

They will need to control for tylenol use which is given before and after vaccines.

    This drug is theoretically TOXIC.

For nearly a hundred years no chemist would use it for this TOXIC reason.

Almost as soon as the EXTRA strength tylenol came out there were cases of people dying but these deaths are dwarfed by the continual annual deaths to adults from tylenol use right through to today.

Babies apparently are immune to harm. Or perhaps for the sudden infant deaths IGNORANCE is so wonderful.

Just like that WONDERFUL ignorance about how little AUTISM there is for those not taking VACCINES so early and NOT taking ANY TYLENOL.

Dont look, dont FIND is a wonderful system in place in medical practice.

  18. Eileen Apple says:

I hope this study is done, but if it is done by the CDC I would not trust the results. There needs to be a completely independent group who will be held accountable down the line if there is any gross innacuracies or number crunching found in there tests. Also it should be a federal crime to make up lies about this kind of testing regardless of what type it is because of how many lives the outcome will effect.

  19. thixotropic says:

This study should be done, but I think the CDC will turn it into “proof” that there is no difference. Independent studies must be done!

  20. Polly says:

The raw data has to be made available to all researchers who want it. No charge to the researchers. No waiting for years on end. No side peddling saying there is a computer problem or the information has been lost.

  21. cia parker says:

    Kimberly,
There are other kinds of autism besides inborn (from toxic exposures of mother or in utero, autism did not exist in anyone before the industrial age) and regressive. My daughter, Judy Converse’s son, and Michael Belkin’s daughter all had severe reactions to the hep-B vaccine at birth. Michael’s daughter was killed by it, and my daughter and Ben developed bowel disease and autism. But the damage was done on the first day after birth. (At five weeks of age in the case of Laila.) The same has happened to hundreds of thousands of newborns, but since they were not given any time at all to develop normallly before being permanently damaged, a different study protocol would be necessary to take their damage into account. See congressional testimony of May 1999 on dangers of hep-B vaccine, and school nurse Patti White on her association’s conviction that the sudden wave of autism hitting Missouri schools starting in 1996 was caused by the universal hep-B vaccine for newborns starting in 1991.

  22. Brian Willcott says:

If the US government really cared about outbreaks they would close the borders and secure them. The US does not care. It’s terribly sad that my sons doctor only knows sound bites instead of sound reason.

  23. There HAS been an excellent study done by German researcher Andreas Bachmair, on the comparison of ‘vaccinated vs non-vaccinated children’. The full study may be accessed online at: http://www.vaccineinjury.info/vaccinations-in-general/health-unvaccinated-children/survey-results-illnesses.html
Also anecdotal results from parents around the world who participated in the study have been printed unedited in Bachmair’s book ‘Vaccine Free -111 Stories of UnVaccinated Children’. (available online from Amazon.com)

  24. A Cella says:

Fact, not fiction: All vaccines are to be avoided like the plague, as well as flu shots, or ANYTHING offered by any kind of gov’t sponsored programs. This is not paranoia; I have studied this issue at depth and recommend to all friends, family, and especially those with children… NO SHOTS! In my lifetime alone I have seen exactly what this congressman suggests….epidemics from former rarely encountered diseases. This is no accident.

  25. Jane Hallstrom says:

Thank you so much for pushing this issue. The investigations must proceed and the drug companies must compensate these families if there is found a corellation. No amount of millions of dollars of money can begin to supplant what these people have lost. Some of these children are in a perpetual state of torment and their parents are living in hell. The autistic classrooms in the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools – a well funded and progressive school district – were like lunatic asylums. I substituted there often and the memories still haunt me. Something has got to be done to investigate and change whatever is causing these rates to soar.
